-- MY LIFE.

My life is dominantly ran by the information highway. I am chained and stuck with the idea that if the things that it offers will be gone, it's the end of the world and i'll die. I may sound a bit exxagerated for saying such but its true.

I use search engines like yahoo and google in the internet to search answers for my assignments. I am not used to opening big, bulky and dust-covered encyclopedias to search for answers. These internet search engines does it for me and in 5 seconds or less it shows a wide variety of web pages that provides answers. I'll highlight the text, copy it to MS Word and print it. Then it's done.

I, like the others, enjoy playing on-line games -- O2 jam, audition and DOTA. Though I, and the other players are at distant locations, we still have the chance to interact with each other. It eliminates the distance between us.

Though some of family members and friends are abroad, I still have the chance to communicate with them through the yahoo! messenger. I, at times, even have the chance to see them through the access of the web camera. I could also send them e-mails instead of the "snail mail" that takes days before it reaches them.

I blog stuffs about what's the latest happening to me through my tabulas journal. On-line journals allow its members to interact with each other by comment boxes and tag boards.

SMS and MMS messaging is I guess the best thing that the "Information Highway" gave my generation. Many, or should I say most of us, enjoys the bequest of this satellite-generated creation. Honestly speaking, I spend more time conversing with people miles away from me than my family that I share this house with. I have more sensible conversations with people miles away from me than those who are af feet away from where I'm sitting right now.

The Information Highway.

Irving Fang's so-called "The Highway" was an immense aid to the need of a faster access to communication, information and entertainment. It, coming to the world, eradicated time and distance. It made life easier.

The Information Highway has indeed affected the lives of many. It made information more accessible, entertainment more convenient, and communication a lot more expedient. It might have been a lot more complicated than the former information revolutions but iin my opinion, it was the best.

The use of satellites, invention of computers, access to the internet, contraption of CDs and Cable Narrowcasting -- they marked a developing nation, a mounting way of communication.

the war of the worlds. .

They are now here to take over the world.

What you will be reading is something that I made to make you feel more what I could have felt if I was one of those who have heard the broadcast in 1938.

October 30, 1938. I was 17 then. I was walking home from the dress parlor nearby with a new green dress inside a box that I have in hand. It was getting dark and street lamps start to lit up. I was alone then, all alone. I was feeling quite bizarre then. The streets of New Jersey that night were so quiet. It was like all the villagers were gone in a snap. It was really weird. The odd feeling brought by the strange quietness of the village plus the fact that Halloween then was  just a day away, I really was swathed in so much trepidation.

I reached the house and there I see my mom, my dad and my three sisters listening to the radio that my dad bought a week ago. They seemed so serious. I ignored them and decided to go to my room. I have not reached my room's door yet when I heard my youngest sister shrilled. I went back to the living room ans saw her hugging my dad so tight. It was like she was so afraid. I took her and carried her in my arms. I listened to the radio too and sat beside my dad. Hell! It was a radio broadcast about martians invading New Jersey!

I listened closely to the radio though I was trembling in so much fear. In my mind thoughts of these martians played and raised my hear from head to toe - their peculiar faces, odd languages, deep dark black eyes, bizarre body built and the frightening things that they can do.

The sudden stops in the broadcast added more to my horror. The sounds and the sudden shrills of some covered me more in fear. The signal interruptions made me panic more.

I always doubted that there was life outside the Earth, that there was life in Mars. I always ignored such hoax but that night while I was listening to the broadcast, I found myself believing that martians came to invade the earth.

After an hour or less, it was said that all along the broadcast was just a Halloween presentation, that it was not really happening and in fact, it was just a story. I sighed and said, "Thank God, It wasn't real."

Obviously, my answer to the question would I have believed the broadcast, was a YES. The radio broadcast was so believable. It was as if it was not just a play or a story played on air. It was like it was really happening. The sound effects, signal interruptions, sudden shrills because of fear, outbreaking news, interviews of some who were said to have witnessed the invasion and the emotions given as the lines were delivered, they made the broadcast something worth believing for.

Take note : In my story, I have not heard the broadcast in full. I wasn't able to hear that it was just a Halloween special presentation. I only had the chance to listen to it minutes before it started.
